Caloric Balance Vs. Hormonal Balance

Lets take a moment and entertain some ideas. Have you ever approached a tall person and said "wow, you are so tall, you must EAT a lot!"? Chances are, you have never said that, I am 6'1", decently tall, and have never heard that.

Now as "PC" as it may or may not be, we all may have said or thought at least once that the person who is large MUST EAT a lot. Why is it that we think that when someone grows vertically we know that it is a genetic/hormonal response but not when the issue involves horizontal growth. Suddenly horizontal growth becomes a character flaw. Well some do say that it is a genetic component. But what does that really mean?

Genes are codes that help your body communicate and function (very simplified way to say it, I am sure geneticist would be angry). So in some regards, your hormonal control is a genetic component of who you are.

Could it be that, its not how much you eat? but how the foods you eat affect your body's regulatory processes, such as hormones? Are human really just a simple math equation when it comes weight regulation, but on the other hand the most complex of things when it comes to the regulation of just about any other equilibrium in the body?

Lastly, entertain this idea: Is one fat because one eats too much or is that one is eating too much because one is fat?

Let Hunger Guides You

When was the last time you remember being hungry, and not just "omg are THESE sriracha-mayo fries, and steak fries nachos" hungry. I mean, when you may have been so busy to eat, you came home and you ate,,,what you were going to eat, nothing special, but it felt and tasted on the extra tasty side that day.

Well it may have been a while, imagine if every meal was this way. That may sound great, but there is actually more to it than just tasting great, check out this study:
